LIVING WELL WITH DIABETES

If you have diabetes, you know it never takes a vacation. You live with it every day. In November, during National Diabetes Month, diabetes organizations take center stage to focus the world’s attention on the disease. One such group, dLife, offers some great ideas on how you can improve your life while living with diabetes.

1. Eat better. Food and diabetes go hand in hand. So learn how to cook and eat diabetes-friendly meals. Visit a nutritionist or dietician for tips. Your health plan may even cover it.

2. Know your numbers. What’s your A1C target? How are your cholesterol levels? How often do you need to test your blood sugar? Is your weight where it should be? If you if you aren’t absolutely clear on these don’t know the answers, talk to your doctor now.

3. Help others like you. Become part of the diabetes community. Visit www.dlife.com for ideas. Or contact your local chapter of the American Diabetes Association and find out how you can help with any National Diabetes Month events scheduled in your area.
